Za cíl si práce stanoví objasnit vnitropolitickou situaci před rokem 1860 a samotné zvolení Abrahama Lincolna prezidentem. Systematicky rozebere kandidaturu Lincolna, ale částečně i jeho protivníků, odezvy veřejnosti, volbu, a také reakci, kterou vyvolala. Do práce bude zařazen i nástin politické kariéry Lincolna (především ve vrcholné politice) a vliv jeho osoby na počátek Americké občanské války.
Preliminary scope of work in English
The aim of the thesis is to clarify the domestic political situation before the 1860 and also Abraham Lincoln´s presidential election itself. It suppose to analyze systematically Lincoln´s nomination, but partly also the nomination of his counterparts, as well as the public opinion, the election itself and the reaction. Lincoln´s political career will be mentioned as well (especially in high politics), included the influence of the election on the American Civil War.
