Preliminary scope of work
Preliminary scope of work in English
My thesis will consist of introduction, three chapters and conclusion. In first chapter I will provide a basic information about the concept of sustainable development, I will assess the main theoretical approaches of stronger and weaker sustainability. In the second chapter I will define sustainability in relation to Canadian realms. I will pay a special look at public law, how sustainability was implemented in Canadian legislation. This also includes how sustainability is anchored in Albertan legislation. In the third chapter I will provide the basic background information about oil sands are, where they are located and why they are so important for Alberta. I will especially focus on the economic importance of Alberta's oil sands. In this thesis I am intersted in research to what extent Canada has anchored sustainability principles, because it has been regarded as a world leader in envioronmental issues. However, I will especially study how oil sands development in Alberta influences environmental policies in Canada, that are a key components of the concept of sustainable development.
