Preliminary scope of work
Preliminary scope of work in English
Drell-Yan process is considered to be a powerfull tool to study hadron structure. A proposal for Drell-Yan program in 2013 and 2014 was accepted on COMPASS experiment at CERN. The goal of the project is to determine Transverse-Momentum-Dependent Parton Distributions (TMDs) using Drell-Yan process on transversely polarised proton target hit by pion beam.
The low temperature polarised target is key instrument for the project. Diploma student will be involved in the modification of existing polarised target for Drell-Yan and later in Drell-Yan study itself.
Due to the high heat input from the pion beam the new target holder, high frequency polarising cavity and NMR system for measuring polarisation are to be designed and built.
