Preliminary scope of work

Cílem práce je zanalyzovat a porovnat politický vývoj dvou lotyšských politiků, Alfrēdse Rubikse a Tatjany Ždanoky, kteří jako jední z hlavních představitelů rigidního křídla Komunistické strany Lotyšska (KSL) stáli na přelomu 80. a 90. let 20. století v opozici k nezávislosti Lotyšska na SSSR, a kteří i po rozpadu SSSR, a přes omezení, které jim způsobovala jejich komunistická minulost, zůstali ve vrcholné politice samostatného Lotyšska. Co způsobilo, že se oba udrželi v aktivním politickém životě, nakolik se změnily jejich postoje a rétorika od dob, kdy bylo Lotyšsku součásti SSSR, a jak se jako hlavní odpůrci lotyšské nezávisloti etablovali na půdě Evropského parlamentu, budou hlavní otázky, na které bude tato práce hledat odpovědi.

Preliminary scope of work in English

This bachelor thesis aims to analyze political development of two Latvian politicians, Alfred Rubiks and Tatyana Zhdanok, who from the position of the rigid representatives of the Communist Party of Latvia, who stood in oposition to the Latvian independence struggles at the turn of the 80s and 90s, established themselves in the political life of the independent Latvian state, even though their communist past caused them difficulties in doing so. What were the motives for them to continue their political careers, in what extent they changed their stance and rhetoric since the communist times and how, as the leading opponents to the Latvian independence, established themselves in the European parliament, will be the main questions for the analysis of this bachelor thesis.
