Preliminary scope of work

Tertullianovo učení o manželství, druhém manželství, vdovství, celibátu a zdrženlivosti je pozoruhodné a tvoří podstatnou součást vývoje starokřesťanského pohledu na tuto problematiku. Stěžejním tématem mé práce bude zkoumání, jakým způsobem toto Tertullianovo učení zapadá do kontextu učení dalších myslitelů a teologů prvních století po Kristu a jakým způsobem ovlivnilo ty, kdo přišli po Tertullianovi. Jádrem práce bude studie o Tertullianově pojetí manželství, vdovství, celibátu a zdrženlivosti na základě analýzy překladu Tertullianovy trilogie spisů o manželství (Ad uxorem, De exhortatione castitatis, De monogamia). Pro uchopení kontextu Tertullianova učení pak bude nezbytné vybrat nejdůležitější autory raně křesťanského období, kteří se touto tematikou zabývali, a také Tertullianova myšlenkového zázemí. Zvláštní pozornost bude věnována Tertullianovu způsobu práce s Písmem, jeho exegezím, které tvoří základ Tertullianovy argumentace. Tento „právnický“ způsob výkladu Písma se pak odráží i v pozdějším vnímání a uvažování celého západního křesťanství, čemuž bude také věnován patřičný prostor.

Preliminary scope of work in English

Tertullian’s teachings on marriage, second marriage, widowhood, celibacy and chastity are quite remarkable and form a significant part of the development of the old Christian view on the matter. The main subject of my work will be the matter of how Tertullian’s teachings fit in with the teachings of other thinkers and theologists of the first centuries after Christ and how they influenced those after Tertullian. The core of the work will be a study on Tertullian’s view on marriage, widowhood, celibacy and chastity based on an analysis of the translation of Tertullian's trilogy on marriage (Ad uxorem, De exhortatione castitatis, De monogamia). To cover the context of Tertullian’s teachings it will be necessary to choose the most important authors of the early Christian era who dealt with the subject, and the authors Tertullian drew from. A special part of the thesis will focus on Tertullian's work with the Scripture, his exegeses, which form the basis of his opinion. Such a law-like way of interpreting the Scripture is reflected in later perception and thinking of the whole western Christianity, a fact that will be elaborated on in the thesis as well.
