| Hlavním cílem práce je pochopit chování "aristokratických" postav ve vybraných románech Williama Faulknera (The Sound and the Fury, Absalom, Absalom!) tak, aby se ozřejmil úpadek jižanské aristokracie (hmotný i duchovní). Jako hlavní příčina se bude vnímat především závislost těchto postav na minulosti, což bude ilustrováno na vybraných scénách. Vlastní analýzy se budou opírat jak o historicko-společenské pozadí, tak o psychologické vhledy, obojí s přesahem do oblasti genderu. Zatímco v úvodu práce bude nastíněn mýtus "Starého Jihu", v závěru bude shrnuto, jakým způsobem autor tento přežitý mýtus podkopává. |
