Rudolf was available and very helpful. His explanations and demonstrations with Python were great. His comments on homework were prompt and helpful. My only suggestion is that he grade a little more leniently, as often I lost points for new material which was not entirely clear based on lecture (e.g. makefiles) or differences between my home computer and ones in the lab.

Rudolf was open to questions and quite helpful during the classes. In the end he corrected all the homeworks because doc. Žabokrtský was "too busy to do that".

"Warm-up" exercises are usually quite hard and we spent too much time with it.
I feel that I learned especially by Googling error messages that resulted from the warm-up exercises.
I enjoyed doc. Žabokrtský's style, but it would be even better if he corrected homeworks (and put up extra assignments) earlier.

The instructor often had difficult explaining import concepts. He would give a warm up activity and then end it, and not review or tie things together. He read off his slides or wrote on board, but it would be more helpful if he himself coded and demonstrated what he wanted (as Rudolf often did). His often responded to question in a way that was somewhat condescending and humiliating, with comments like "I was under the impression that you learned this in Statistical NLP," which made him quite unapproachable.

I would welcome if doc. Žabokrtský updated the course page, especially the slides and supplementary study materials, attended class more often.

The topics covered are comprehensive. The difficulty of the assignments were okay, and they were fun. Would be more fun if there had been more competitive assignments, like the POS tag one.

The homework assignments were very doable and for people that took them seriously it was easy to rack up a great amount of points.

Tento předmět byl pro mě jako absolventa bc. IOI na MFF velice jednoduchý, mnoho věcí jsem znal z bc. studia nebo odjinud, látku bych zvládl i samostudiem bez přednášek a chození na cvičení.
Oceňuji přechod předmětu z Perlu do Pythonu a odkazy na další předměty.

Zajimavy a velmi uzitecny predmet. Probiraji se zakladni prostredky na zpracovani textu (bash, python, xml a nekolik dalsich). Nerozlisuje se prednaska a cviceni, oba vyucujici se stridaji, maji zajimavy a srozumitelny vyklad.
V prubehu semestru je asi 7 snadnych ukolu (vetsinou se daji zvladnout na zaklade prikladu z cviceni, obcas je potreba si neco dohledat), na konci zase snadna pisemka.

The technologies presented in course were diverse and useful. Somethings were difficult at first (svn). I liked that they changed Perl to Python. The website usually provided links and information, but perhaps a book would aid our understanding of some topics (taggers), which the instructor assumed we had seen before.

Myšlenka předmětu a sylabus je docela dobrá - naučit/připomenout základní nástroje (python, shell, xml), ale pojetí předmětu hrozné. Plno otravných technických domácích úkolů, které člověk musí dělat. Daleko zajímavější by bylo méně úkolů a myšlenkově náročnějších. Připomíná to první ročník Bc. studia. Více předmět vystihuje: "programování pro neprogramátory".

I appreciate replacement of Perl with Python.
I would recommend replacing SVN with git because it is more popular and the API is very similar.

Předmět byl pro mne přínosný, srovnávání jazyků a přenos nástrojů a postupů mezi nimi je zajímavé téma.

Rozdělení na přednášku a cvičení fungovalo dobře, většinou na sebe přímo navazovaly. Jen chvílemi bylo vidět, že je předmět nový, probíraná látka „neučesaná“ a úkoly tvořené za pochodu. Dobré byly často zmiňované příklady jazykových jevů, rozdílů mezi jazyky a existujících systémů či výsledků.

Tempo výkladu bylo odpovídající. I domácí úkoly byly rozsahem, obsahem i náročností přiměřené kreditovému ohodnocení, oceňuji na nich zejména kreativitu a možnost rozšiřování nad rámec předmětu – kdo chce, snadno si tu může najít materiál na článek nebo diplomku.
