Prof. Hajic is a pleasant, smiling, always suited up type of a professor. He is intriguing and capable of very understandable explanation -- either in Czech or English that is of very high level. He has very deep knowledge of the subject.

Prof. Pecina was very approachable and available for private consultations and responded promptly to emails. His comments was helpful. My only suggestion is that he familiarize himself a bit more with the Prof. Hajic's notes/slides/project description, as he seemed sometimes confused on certain detials.

Doc. Pecina has very deep knowledge of the subject and nice, understandable English. We did not have many lectures with him, but from those we had I must admit, that his speech is more monotonic than it could be.

Předmět se mi líbí svým obsahem, stejně tak jako jeho část I. Oba přednášející jsou milí a přátelští, což způsobuje pěknou atmosféru na přednáškách.
Ocenila bych ale říkat u řady věcí spíš myšlenku než implementaci (implementaci si z myšlenky udělám, ale hledat myšlenku z implementace mi trvá déle), je však možné, že myšlenky řečeny jsou a jen je nepostřehnu kvůli angličtině, ukázky implementace bych přesto nejradši vyřadila. Také mě nebavilo několik hodin po sobě, kdy se na příkladech rozebíral např. Shift-Reduce Parsing pořád dokola.

Since the slides are already clear, it would be interesting if the lecturer gave related information that is not in the slide (e.g. more practical thing in real life), to enrich the students with more knowledge in the area.

- Slides are very great and useful for understanding correctly problems and approaches.
- I could get almost all methods immediately during studying in class.
- For building practical systems, It would even much more great if techniques make IR systems working fast and efficiently are introduced in more details.

I appreciate that the contents of the lecture was not so wide as it is usual at MFF -- we had time to discuss some more subtle views of several concepts as well as to repeat the most important stuff. That was refreshing, because of that you remember much more of the lecture after the exam period.

Velmi oddechová přednáška. Klidně by se mohl úvod o pravděpodobnosti výrazně zkrátit, stejně tak většina příkladů, které mi přišly triviální. Pan profesor Hajič neskutečně pěkně přednáší:)

The course material was interesting, but some of it felt out of place. Some material was mentioned once and never used again on the exam or in the homework. The supplied practice exam was a great way to study.

Jedná se z hlediska obsahu o zajímavý předmět, ale jeho potenciál není podle mě dostatečně využit. Oceňuji snahu, aktivitu a kultivovanost projevu profesora Hajiče, který se všemi možnými způsoby snaží výuku oživit. Výuka je ale celá ve formě přednášek, které přesahují až do času určeného pro cvičení. Cvičení jsou prakticky zrušena a nahrazena domácím úkolem. U zkoušky je kromě teorie požadováno také praktické aplikování představených metod, přestože (kromě domácího úkolu) se v průběhu kurzu nic nepočítá. Osobně bych uvítal, kdyby právě k tomuto účelu sloužila (dobrovolná/zkrácená) cvičení.

Vcelku zajimavy predmet, nikterak zvlast obtizny. Prednasky byly pro me mene zazivne, ale srozumitelne. Ucit se da ale velmi dobre ze slidu. Latka je docela zajimava (ale to jsem vlastne zjistil az pri uceni na zkousku...). 2 ukoly v prubehu semestru jsou stredne tezke az tezsi (je asi potreba si na ne udelat dostatek casu). Cviceni vetsinou nebyla, pouze kdyz se jsme meli strucne prezentovat, jak jsme resili ukoly. Vyucujici je ochotny, hodnoceni zkousky mirne.

Zajímavé téma, přednáška se dá bez problémů sledovat, vyučující dobře odpovídá na položené dotazy. Úkoly pro splnění předmětu jsou ale docela náročné, mají-li se udělat pořádně. Nicméně když se vám povede si udělat na ně čas, je to zábavná a zajímavá práce nad hezkým datasetem.

The course content has an intersection with other courses, especially text classification and clustering. I, as a 2nd year master student, didn't learn much new things in this course. The course can be easily passed "remotely", just read the slides, do homework and write the exam test. The exam is easy, the questions cover only the basic concepts.
Someone could appreciate more feedback from the lecturer during work on homework assignments, it could be better to split the first big homework to separately revised subtasks.
I would also appreciate lecturer's proposal to cooperation between students. A mailing list for question answering could be sufficient.

The practical session needs more hands on experience to show how some information retrieval systems really work. This will be helpful to better understand the scenarios discussed during the lecture, the "tutorials" are more like lectures than tutorials.
