Professor Hana is great at helping you conceptualize ideas rather than just memorize them. He gives great examples and explanations for hard questions and works to try and understand where you're coming from.

One of the best courses on mff for me. Both lectures and tutorials were mostly interactive, which encouraged students to be attentive and involved.
A lot of examples and nice linguistic phenomena.
The exam is open-book, which reduces stress and helps to focus on understanding concepts instead of purely memorizing things.

Very talkative and friendly lecturer, easy to interact with. Seems passionate about the material he is demonstrating. Dr. Hana is a humorous speaker and very cheerful, his presentations are often fascinating and hard to call boring.

I definitely recommend taking this course. The material was interesting, yet still very informative. Homeworks were not difficult, and the feedback was always provided. In my opinion, an open-book exam is a great advantage of the course, because it forces not to memorize the lectures but to really understand how to apply the material we have covered during the semester.

Nanejvýše zábavný a poučný předmět. Jen by bylo bývalo lepší, kdyby v nějakých tématech šel více do hloubky, když už je to magisterský předmět a na bakalářském studiu je mnoho dostupných lingvistických předmětů.

Nice overview of the linguistics basics. The course is well-organized in terms of material presentations. The choice of information throughout the course is well-connected and decently informative. Was looking forward to the lectures because every time there is something new that is based on the previously explored concepts. Moreover, there are interactive parts where students engage in the analysis of languages which is pretty cool. Once we were analysis bees and their communication through dancing to describe properties of this communication system like real linguists - memorable and very interesting class.
