Motivation
The main objective of this analysis is to evaluate the effect of material prosperity on happiness, taking hierarchical data structure into account. Hypotheses People with higher material prosperity are happier. The relationship is non-linear and depends on peoples reference point. Corruption environment significantly decreases peoples happiness. Outline Motivation: the governments aim to enhance the country's GDP growth in order to increase the material prosperity of citizens to ensure their better living. But is it really material prosperity what drives peoples happiness? Happiness: I will discuss the meaning of happiness and well-being and explain how I will use them. Literature review: I will briefly summarize the literature capturing the relationship between material prosperity and peoples well-being / happiness. Data: I describe the sources and data I will use. Methods: I will explain modern regression methods, including the probit, the logit and the quantile regressions. Results: I will discuss my baseline regressions and robustness checks. Concluding remarks: I will summarize my findings and their implications for policy and future research. |
