Zásady pro vypracování
The thesis will be focusing on the theme of Hamlet in relation to Stephen Dedalus in James Joyce´s Ulysses. More precisely, it will address Stephen´s theory of Hamlet predominantly on the background constituted by Stephen´s aesthetic theory. Moreover, it will discuss how and to what extent is Stephen´s aesthetic reflected in his conception of Hamlet and then it will concentrate on the implications of this reflection. Further on, the issues of paternity Stephen provokes with his theory will be commented upon and their significance in the narrative will be disclosed. It also appears remarkable that despite Stephen´s failure to convince his listeners (and even himself!) of the Hamlet theory in Scylla and Charybdis, the theory finds its way into the narrative and the reader can see parallels of Shakespeare and his relation to Hamlet/Hamlet´s ghost in the life of Stephen. Therefore, the potential ways of how Stephen could be incorporated into his own theory will be researched. The final issue will concern the contribution of the theory to the moulding and development of Stephen as a protagonist in the novel.
