Předběžná náplň práce

Systém elektronické pošty je v současné době masivně zneužíván zasíláním nevyžádaných zpráv, obsahujících reklamní sdělení, různé formy nebezpečného spustitelného kódu (spyware, adware, ...) a další nežádoucí elementy. Souhrnně bývají tyto zprávy označovány jako SPAM. Rozsah těchto útoků zatlačuje celý systém až na samu hranici použitelnosti. V posledních letech byla vytvořena celá řada technik, které mají zabraňovat doručování nevyžádaných sdělení. Situace však ukazuje, že metody filtrace bývají úspěšné pouze po omezenou dobu, než se tvůrci SPAMu adaptují na nové techniky a najdou takový formát zpráv, který tyto filtry nedokáží rozpoznat.
Zajímavou možností se proto jeví opačná cesta ? pokusit se najít způsob, jak pro odesilatele velkých množství nevyžádaných majlů neúnosně zdražit úspěšné odeslání emailu. Toho by se dalo docílit např. adaptací techniky tzv. client-puzzles pro stávající majlové servery. Navržené řešení by mělo respektovat stávající protokoly pro přenos el. pošty (SMTP) a stávající mailové servery.
Cílem diplomové práce je provést analýzu stávajících technik pro omezení SPAMu a vyhodnotit jejich úspěšnost a příčiny selhávání. Na základě nabytých znalostí se pokusit navrhnout a prakticky realizovat metodu omezení SPAMu na základě myšlenky zdražení odeslání nevyžádaného majlu. Součástí práce by měl být praktický test realizované metody a popis výsledků testu.

Předběžná náplň práce v anglickém jazyce

The system of electronic mail is currently a target of a massive abuse by sending of unsolicited messages containing advertisement, various forms of dangerous code (spyware, adware, ...) and other undesirable elements. Such messages are spoken about as a SPAM. The extent of the attacks brings the whole electronic mail system to the very limits of usability. A broad range of various techniques to mitigate SPAM was created within several last years. The situation shows however, that new techniques are successful for a limited period of time only, before the SPAM senders adapt to a new situation and develop a new message format, which is not recognized by SPAM filters.
We think, that it would be interesting to approach the problem by another way ? to try to find out such arrangement, when the sending of large number of unsolicited emails became unbearable expensive to the sender. That could be achieved by adaptation of a well-known technique of client-puzzles for the environment of contemporary mail servers. The proposed solution should be compliant to current protocols of electronic mail transfer (SMTP) and compatible with major mail servers.
The goal of the diploma thesis is to perform analysis of currently available techniques of SPAM mitigation and to assess their effectiveness and reasons of failure. Utilizing the gained knowledge the author should design and practically realize a new method of SPAM mitigation based on the idea of rising the price of sending of an unsolicited email. A practical test of the realized method should be a part of the work.
