When reading political philosophy, especially when studying the history of the philosopher, country, and era it was written in, it is clear that geopolitics influence the development of theories and ideas. However, the influence that those philosophical concepts have on geopolitics in return is not as direct, at least not immediately. The case of communism is unique. Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto was first published in London; however, it never made a strong enough impact, at least not as strong as the one it did in Russia. One would think that Russia had followed the example of Great Britain, and in some ways it did, however, the adoption of Communism in Russia was unique.
The purpose of the thesis is to explore what factors affected the development that Communism ended up getting. The ultimate goal, however, is to see the connection between geopolitics and philosophy, particularly the influence that philosophy has on geopolitics – whether it actually is immediate or delayed, and if it exists in general. Hypotheses: As a result, the hypotheses‘ are as follows: (1); geopolitics influence the development of philosophical ideas, however those ideas do not right away change/influence geopolitics: and (2) communism was not adopted in Great Britain as it was in Russia due to significant cultural differences that include, but are not limited to, sociology, the role of the church (religion as a whole), historical background, and geopolitical stance. |
