Zásady pro vypracování

Long run evolution of inequality in Czech Republic received only limited attention even despite the significant social and economic transformation. The student will rely on freely available household survey microdata for years 1978 and 1984, which he will combine with household survey microdata for years following 1990 available from the Luxembourg Income Study. Research question and motivation

In my research I intend to focus primarily on the development of the gender pay gap in the Czech Republic and Czech lands in the former Czechoslovakia.

This topic is important to be analysed and focused on since there are many consequences still in the current situation in the Czech Republic. The topic of gender pay gap (GPG) has been a worldwide topic for many years now and I would like to contribute to the observations through an analysis of the available data from 1978, 1984 and more current datasets while focusing on the potential influences of the Czech economic transformation of the 1990s as well as the entry to the European Union in 2004 and other important factors.

In the Czech Republic, there is generally a high level of gender income inequality in 2019 of 18.9% GPG compared to the EU average of 14.1% (Eurostat Feb 2021) and thus it is important to look closely into what preceded it and let to it.

In my research I would like to follow the study Earnings distribution in Czechoslovakia: intertemporal changes and international comparison (Večerník 1991), update and extend the analysis with the recent data and knowledge mainly in terms of the male-female wage differences specifically in the region of the Czech Republic. As a result of this study, I would like to evaluate whether the economic transformation and entry to the EU of the Czech Republic had a significant influence on the GPG.

Contribution

The main goal of the research is to come up with a thorough analysis of the available data and estimating a model indicating the influencers of the development since 1978 till 2016. Finally, I would like to critically evaluate development of the gender pay gap in Czech Lands and indicate its key influencers.

Methodology

The dataset from 1978 and 1984 are made available in the data archive of the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences and relevant data for the following years are available for university student through Luxembourg Income Study databases provided by the Czech Statistical Office.

To analyse the data, I use the platform LISSY (Cross-national data Centre in Luxembourg) and METIS (METadata Information System. The focus of the analysis would be to calculate a regression model estimating the monthly income explained by the available measured variables, mainly by gender and time period as well as age, marital status, employment type and position and level of education.

Výzkumná otázka a motivace

Ve svém výzkumu se hodlám zaměřit především na vývoj rozdílů v příjmech žen a mužů v České republice a českých zemích v bývalém Československu.

Toto téma je důležité analyzovat a zaměřit se na něj, protože v současné situaci v České republice stále existuje mnoho důsledků. Téma rozdílu v odměňování žen a mužů (GPG) je celosvětovým tématem již mnoho let a já bych chtěl přispět k pozorování prostřednictvím analýzy dostupných údajů z let 1978, 1984 a dalších aktuálních datasetů se zaměřením na potenciální vlivy České ekonomické transformace devadesátých let a také vstupu do Evropské unie v roce 2004 a dalších důležitých faktorů.

V České republice obecně je 2019 vysoká míra nerovnosti mezi příjmy žen a mužů ve výši 18,9% GPG ve srovnání s průměrem EU 14,1% (Eurostat, únor 2021), a proto je důležité se podívat na to, co tomuto stavu předcházelo.

Ve svém výzkumu bych chtěl sledovat studii Earnings distribution in Czechoslovakia: intertemporal changes and international comparison (Večerník 1991), aktualizovat a rozšířit analýzu o nejnovější data a znalosti především z hlediska rozdílů v odměňování mužů a žen konkrétně v regionu České republiky. Závěrem této studie bych chtěl zhodnotit, zda ekonomická transformace a vstup do EU České republiky měly významný vliv na GPG.

Příspěvek

Hlavním cílem výzkumu je přijít s důkladnou analýzou dostupných dat a odhadem modelu udávajícího ovlivňující vývoj od roku 1978 do roku 2016. Nakonec bych chtěl kriticky zhodnotit vývoj rozdílů v odměňování žen a mužů v českých zemích a označit klíčové vlivy.

Metodologie

Datové soubory z let 1978 a 1984 jsou k dispozici v datovém archivu Sociologického ústavu Akademie věd České republiky a relevantní data pro následující roky jsou k dispozici pro studenty vysokých škol prostřednictvím lucemburských databází příjmových studií poskytovaných Českým statistickým úřadem.

K analýze dat používám platformu LISSY (Nadnárodní datové centrum v Lucembursku) a METIS (Informační systém METadata. Zaměřením studie bude regresní model odhadující měsíční příjem vysvětlený dostupnými měřenými proměnnými, zejména podle pohlaví a časového období, jakož i věku, rodinného stavu, typu zaměstnání a postavení a úrovně vzdělání.
