| Research question and motivation
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a United Nations’ agenda which was accepted in 2015 at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in New York by all 193 countries of the UN General Assembly as a continuation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The selection of 17 global goals with 169 targets, which appeals to global partnership when fighting poverty, hunger, inequalities, climate changes and others, is set to be achieved by 2030. As the success of the MDGs is still a matter of debate within the academic circles, some might argue that the world leaders are not serious enough about the SDGs and are not taking enough action in order to achieve them. The motivation for my thesis is to examine factors affecting the key targets of the 8th SDG: decent work and economic growth and focus on its feasibility. For many years now, I have been trying to be as much sustainably aware as possible and while being sometimes quite sceptical, I am interested in studying this topic and researching the results. Contribution Each one of the 17 goals is of high significance and its journey to fulfilment should be recorded. I intend to contribute to the collection of previous thesis researching the goals concerned with poverty, clean energy, health quality and gender equality by analysing following targets of the decent work and economic growth goal: 8.1 Sustain per capita economic growth in accordance with national circumstances, 8.3 Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, 8.4 Improve progressively global resource efficiency in consumption and production, 8.5 Achieve full and productive employment and decent work for all women and men. My thesis can be used as a report of the progress that each country and its government has made so far. Furthermore, the results will be used to discuss the accomplishment of the goal. Methodology The thesis will consist of two parts – the theoretical one and the practical one. The theoretical part will serve as a closer look on the SDGs with a higher emphasis put on the 8th goal. In the practical part, I am going to work with data of the indicators of selected targets obtained from the Global SDG Indicators Database and from the World Bank. With the use of panel data and econometric analysis I will estimate the probability of realization of the selected goal while taking into account all of the indicators. Outline 1. Introduction 2.
