The intention of the thesis consists in the attempt to characterize one of the fundamental columns of the democratic society: the free press. The students tries to elaborate the story of the Prague pre-war satirical magazine Der Simpl (1934-1935) and its attempts to "awaken the human reason". Based on the analysis of the selected file of caricatures, the student tries to examine her hypothesis, that the role of optimism in the human life is rather ambivalent: on one side, it creates the necessary conditions for the human survival, on the other side its excess can cause the catastrophe of the mankind.
