This research project aims to determine the location and distribution of lymphoid cells in the porcine small intestine and to investigate how these criteria are influenced by the gut colonization. Another aim of this work is to establish any significant differences between the ileal and jejunal region of the small intestine which could suggest that pigs use their ileal Peyer´s patches as a site for B cell repertoire development. Next, we focus on the comparison of some of the specific components of GALT (IEL, LPC, IPP, JPP) and on determination of the colonization influence on these components. Another outcome of this project shall be the elucidation of where in the studied tissues the Ig isotype-switching takes place.
