Critical Edition by Haig Utidjian of Dvořák's Mass in D, including Foreword and Commentary. Copyright Haig Utidjian, 2017.

In addition, at long last, on the day of the Faculty deadline for Closing Reports for GAUK, Bärenreiter finally sent the Principal Investigator a "návrh editorské smlouvy" and a letter of acceptance ("schválen do výroby").

It is, of course, likely that Bärenreiter will produce various graphical (esp. notographical) modifications to the file submitted by the Principal Investigator. However, acceptance by a major publisher is a most encouraging development. It has to be stressed that the GAUK project is "Příprava prvního vydání" and no funds were allocated or used towards the cost of publication - merely the preparation of the edition; and thus the publication itself was not promised, and should not be taken as a requirement for the fulfilment of the Grant; nevertheless, the prospect of publication is a most welcome and highly positive development that was long in the offing but not fully confirmed until very recently indeed.

An article in the Czech language on the various manuscript sources of Dvořák's Mass in D, presenting the author's research and recent results in a succinct manner. Utidjian, H.. The Dvořák Mass in D ("Lužanská") for Chorus, organ, violoncello and double-bass. Musicalia. Časopis Českého muzea hudby, 2017, sv. 2017(9), s. 1–15. ISSN 1803-7828. [Článek v časopise]
Article has been accepted for publication (letter of acceptance by Chief Editor attached), but the initial and final page numbers are not yet definitively known.

The article is a succinct summary (of a mere 15 pages) of a very complex evolution of the Mass in D, as first conceived by Dvořák, evidenced in the first continuous sketch abd autograph of the work, through the whole stemma of known manuscript and early printed sources. Further to a historical treatment, the focus of the article is on an unjustly neglected version with accompaniment by organ and lower strings. Finally, the guiding principles underlying the new edition prepared by the author, are set forth and justified.

This article is an expanded version of the second part of the Musicalia article, amplified by the including detailed argumentation, adducing numerous examples, and incorporating lists of significant differences between versions of the Mass - for which space was not available in the Musicalia submission.

The pagination above is provisional.
