Matejkova, Tereza, Hajkova, Petra, Stopkova, Romana, Stanko, Michal, Martin, Jean-Francois, Kreisinger, Jakub, Stopka, Pavel. Oral and vaginal microbiota in selected field mice of the genus Apodemus: a wild population study. Scientific Reports, 2020, sv. 10, s. 1–11. ISSN 2045-2322. IF 3.998. [Článek v časopise]
The first paper funded by this GAUK describes the changes in oral and vaginal microbiota in four species of wild living rodent Apodemus. Furthermore, one of the Apodemus species was introduced into captivity and the influence of captivity on the microbiota changes was observed.

The paper covers the long-time interest in lipocalins, proteins scrutinized in Pavel Stopka's lab from all kinds of perspectives. My contribution was to cover the relationship between lipocalins and the microbiome, namely the role of lipocalins in controlling the growth of both pathogen and mutualistic bacteria.

The paper describes the differences in oral and vaginal microbiota among four different wood mice species which differ in their mating system with Apodemus agrarius being the most promiscuous, A. sylvaticus, A. flavicollis being less promiscuous and A. uralensis being the least promiscuous. The most promiscuous A. agrarius harbors more species-specific bacteria in comparison with others. The captivity had a reducing effect on microbiota composition.
