Kurz si klade za cíl seznámit posluchače s psychologickou tematikou a zvláště s problematikou intelektu u arabského myslitele al-Fārābīho (10. st.), a to prostřednictvím vybraných pasáží z jeho tří textů: Názory obyvatel ctnostné obce, Vybrané aforismy a Dopis o intelektu. První dva texty budou k dispozici v českém pracovním překladu, třetí v překladu anglickém a francouzském. Znalost arabštiny je výhodou, nikoli podmínkou pro zápis do kurzu.

The goal of the course is to present psychological themes with special focus on the theory of intellect of Medieval Arabic philosopher al-Farabi. We will read and comment some selected passages from his three texts: The Perfect City, The Aphorisms of the Statesman (the Czech working translations available) and the letter On the Intellect (in English or French translations). The knowledge of Arabic language is considered to be an advantage for orienting in the text not a requisite for enrolling.
