World Englishes. English as a Lingua Franca. je koncipován jako úvodní kurz do problematiky World Englishes a do současného výzkumu zaměřeného na ELF (English as a Lingua Franca). Účastníci kurzu si procvičí své prezentační dovednosti a budou vedeni ke kritickému přístupu k aplikovaně lingvistickým pojmům a principům. Část kurzu bude probíhat online.

The course is an introduction into the field of World Englishes and current ELF (English as a Lingua Franca) research. It will provide an overview of key terminology and discuss pedagogically highly relevant issues that are changing current practices in ELT (English Language Teaching). It is intended for MA students of English and American studies who have completed their practical language course and (possibly) an introductory course into applied linguistics. Previous theoretical and practical experience with TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) is welcome but not essential. The course participants will be given a chance to practise their presentation skills and take a critical stand to established applied linguistic phenomena. Part of the course will be conducted on-line via Skype.
