The Fundaments of Czech Grammar
Requirements for credit: - Active and regular participation (max. two absences), - Spoken paper (10 min.) on an essential Czech linguistics issue (by arrangement) in Czech or in English, followed by discussion.
1st seminar: - Czech language from a diachronic perspective, - Czech language as a west Slavonic language, - Czech language grammar system.
2nd seminar: - Fundaments of Czech phonetics and phonology, - Practical exercises in Czech pronunciation (linear and suprasegmental features).
3rd seminar: - Contrastive Czech-English morphology and syntax, - Czech word order, - Principles of functional sentence perspective, - Practical exercises depending on the Czech language knowledge.
4th seminar: - Principles of word formation, - Foreign words in Czech, - Practical exercises in Czech pragmatics competencies.
5th seminar: - Czech sociolinguistic characteristics, - So called Common Czech, inter-dialects, dialects, - Sociolects and their principles, - Practical exercises in Czech socioculture competencies.
6th seminar: - Prague Linguistic Circle, - Main personalities of the Czech linguistics, - Evaluation and assessment.
