Drawing on their knowledge of morphology, the course familiarizes students with the basic units of the syntactic description of present-day English. it focuses on the structure and functions of the simple sentence (sentence types and discourse functions, clause patterns and clause elements, negation). A contrastive point of view, comparing English and Czech syntax, is employed in the description of selected topics.

Kurz syntax I navazuje na kurz morfologie. Seznamuje studenty se základními jednotkami popisu moderní angličtiny na rovině syntaktické. Zaměřuje se na stavbu a funkce věty jednoduché (větné typy a jejich diskurzní funkce, větné vzorce a větné členy, zápor). Kde je to vhodné, porovnává se syntaktická stavba angličtiny se syntaxí češtiny.
