Please note, the lectures are given in Czech language. English version of the course can be requested in advance
if there
are at least 5 students.
The comparative anatomy of representatives of all principal groups of vertebrates (i.e. Cyclostomata,
Chondrichthyes,
Osteichthyes, Amphibia, Reptilia, Aves, and Mammalia), as well as Amphioxus and larval Tunicata, and should
provide an
idea on major anatomical transformations that have occurred in the vertebrates during their evolution from the
pre-chordate
stage to the mammalian stage, with the view of making the anatomy of the mammal, including that of man,
meaningful.
Although one cannot examine the actual evolutionary sequence in living animals, one can at least simulate this
sequential
study to some extent. The course is completed by one-week laboratory dissections and, thanks to courtesy of the
Head of
the Anatomical Institute of the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University, also by demonstration of evolutionary
significant
features on dissected human body.
