The impact of the migration crisis on the V4 cooperation

Objective: to describe the origin and the nature of the V4 cooperation and present how the bloc became an EU-level political actor

-          the origin of the V4 cooperation

-          the objectives of the cooperation

-          the (low) level of institutionalisation

-          competition and cooperation before EU accession

-          the changing nature of cooperation after EU accession

-          the impact of the migration crisis

-          from policy takers to policy makers

 

The Hungarian migration policy

Objective: to outline the main measure of the Hungarian migration policy and explain its social and political context

-          Hungarian society after the regime change

-          Migration and migration policy prior to the 2015 crisis

-          The impact of the migration crisis on Hungary

-          Government measures at the time of and after the migration crisis

-          The 2016 quota referendum on

-          Conflicts between the EU and the Hungarian government over migration policy

-          The politics of migration policy

 

Political institutions and the division of power in post-communist Hungary

Objective: to give an introduction to the polity of Hungary and compare the institutional arrangements before and after the adoption of the Fundamental Law of Hungary

-          The system of government in 1989-1990

-          The strengthening of the executive and the prime minister

-          Other institutions: the Constitutional Court, the ombudspersons and the judiciary

-          Local governance

-          The main changes after the adoption of the new constitution of 2012

 

Parties and party system in Hungary

Objective: to present the main actors and developments of the Hungarian party system

-          The early pluralisation of the Hungarian party system

-          The stabilisation of three political camps

-          The concentration of the party system: from three poles to two blocs

-          The 2009-2010 realignment among the old parties and the emergence of new parties

-          The predominant party system after 2010

 

Elections and the electoral systems of the V4 countries

Objective: to compare the main features and the political implications of the electoral systems of the Visegrad countries

-          The main features of the Czech and the Slovak electoral systems

-          The impacts on the Czech and Slovak party systems

-          The main features of the Polish and the Hungarian electoral systems

-          The impacts on the Hungarian and the Polish party systems

-          The V4 electoral systems in the light of proportionality and governability
