European TV screens are flooded by images of desperate people. Who are they? Refugees? Economic Migrants? Legal? Illegal? Does it matter how we call them? Should we care about their fate and how their fate relates to ours? This course invites students to reflect on current debate on refugees and migrants in Europe. The lecturers will introduce the students to basic concepts and analytical lenses essential for studying borders, migration and asylum issues. The course focuses on current issues, i.e. we will study events (including their media coverage) as they unfold. Beyond getting academic background, students will develop/enhance peer-learning/peer-teaching skills.
