Principles and functions of digital libraries in internet. Main concepts: [automated] digital library, digital [virtual] library, eprints archive, open archive etc. Architecture of digital library: user interfaces, repositories, handle systems and search systems. Digital objects, their types and persistent identifiers (URN, HDL, DOI aj.). Resolution services. Metadata in digital libraries. Protocols of communication (OAI-PMH aj.). Types (models) of digital libraries. Information retrieval in selected digital libraries and eprints archives. (arXiv.org, NCSTRL, NDLTD, CogPrints, NZDL, ROADS aj.). Digital libraries of commercial publishers. Integration of digital libraries and the initiative OAI. Digital libraries and services with citation indexes.<br>

Předmět vyučován ve školním roce 2018/2019. Je věnován obecným i praktickým otázkám budování, provozu a zejména využívání systémů digitálních knihoven / digitálních archivů s důrazem na oblast vědy a výzkumu. Obecná část je věnována vymezení základních termínů, funkcí, významu a architektury těchto systémů. Specifické místo je věnováno základním otázkám vyhledávání informací v systémech úplných textů. Praktická část předmětu zahrnuje přehled vybraných systémů digitálních knihoven nebo archivů, obsah jejich digitálních fondů a poskytovaných služeb v globálním rámci v různých sektorech společenské činnosti.
