Principles and functions of digital libraries in internet. Main concepts: [automated] digital library, digital [virtual] library, eprints archive, open archive etc. Architecture of digital library: user interfaces, repositories, handle systems and search systems. Digital objects, their types and persistent identifiers (URN, HDL, DOI aj.). Resolution services. Metadata in digital libraries. Protocols of communication (OAI-PMH aj.). Types (models) of digital libraries. Information retrieval in selected digital libraries and eprints archives. (arXiv.org, NCSTRL, NDLTD, CogPrints, NZDL, ROADS aj.). Digital libraries of commercial publishers. Integration of digital libraries and the initiative OAI. Digital libraries and services with citation indexes.<br>
