Guidelines

Ve své knize Natural Symbols (1970) se britská antropoložka Mary Douglas zabývala otázkou, proč a jak jsou určité transkulturní náboženské konstanty sestavovány do různých systémů rozumění světu. Odpověď hledala v různých typech sociálních situací, v nichž jsou dané systémy představ formulovány, přičemž se je pokusila analyzovat pomocí dvou parametrů "skupiny" (míra, v jaké jsou vymezené hranice určité skupiny vůči zbytku společnosti) a "sítě" (míra předurčenosti role jednotlivce v rámci společnosti a to, nakolik je jeho klasifikační systém sdílený s ostatními nebo jimi určovaný). Tyto dva parametry pak umožňují roztřídit různé náboženské světonázory podle toho, jaké ideály v těchto dvou směrech vykreslují a jaké požadavky na jedince kladou. S touto teoretickou koncepcí konfrontuje Mary Douglas reálně existující kultury, určí nakolik jsou si z těchto dvou hledisek jejich kosmologie blízké a zkoumá, zda mají společná i společenská uspořádání, normy chování a podobně. Na jednu stranu tak umožňuje zasadit jinak osamocené kulturní prvky do celkového rámce smyslu, na druhou pak aplikace tohoto přístupu na religiózní představy otevírá mnohé možnosti nacházet souvislosti mezi náboženstvími v oblastech, kde bychom je za jiných okolností nehledali.
Mary Douglas se v rozvíjení této své metody však ve svých dalších knihách zaměřila spíše jiným směrem. Z tohoto důvodu se v této práci hodlám soustředit na aplikaci jejího přístupu v dílech jiných badatelů. Protože je tato metoda populární především mezi biblisty, rozhodla jsem se orientovat na tuto oblast. Na příkladech těch autorů, kteří pomocí metody skupiny a sítě rozebírali 1. list Korintským, se pokusím získat širší představu o možnostech a limitacích použití této metody, a o cestách, které tato aplikace otvírá pro porozumění nám časově vzdálených společností a jejich náboženských představ.
