Recent experiments have shown that when electrons move along helical molecule (like DNA), they polarize their spin [1]. This phenomenon is called chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) and offers means to achieve spin filtering, facilitate spin memory and logic [2].
The aim of this project is to calculate transport of electrons moving in a helical potential. The Hamiltonian and eigenstates were given in reference [3]. We will consider scattering off a classical magnet, connected with helical leads. Spin current and spin torque will be the observables of interest.
