Guidelines for thesis preparation:
Superstring vertex operators describe the physical spectrum of string theory in a given target space. However, studying them in curved backgrounds is a big challenge. The AdS space is of particular interest because of the so-called AdS/CFT correspondence, which states there is a strong-weak duality between string theory in AdS_5 X S^5 background and N=4 SYM theory in four dimensions.

The goal of this project is to investigate the recent developments on the construction of string vertex operators in AdS backgrounds using the so-called pure spinor formalism. Towards this goal, there are several intermediate steps that can be explored, such as (1) the superparticle case (which is the zero length limit of the string), (2) ambitwistor or, more generally, chiral strings (which is somewhat simpler than the usual string, but is also formulated in the worldsheet) and (3) other curved spaces, such as AdS_3 and pp-wave backgrounds.
