Preliminary scope of work in English
Short period superlattices with strong delocalization of the electron and hole wavefunctions can be described in many cases by anisotropic 3D media, characterized by in-plane and transverse (along the growth direction) effective masses and dielectric constants [1-2]. Their linear and nonlinear absorption as well luminescence have been investigated combining the anisotropic medium approach with analytical solutions of the interacting electron-hole problem based on the Hulthén potential [3-4].In the previous calculations cited here the scattering and dephasing used were phenomenological. This project will replace all phenomenological scattering processes by calculations within the second order Born approximation [5].

Expected knowledge: Knowledge in the field of electromagnetism theory of semiconductor materials, quantum mechanics, mathematical and numerical methods applied to solid state problems. Scientific computation in a Linux environment.

The candidate will go through a guided study period under Prof. Mauro Fernandes Pereira’s direction to develop a background on the quantum theory of optical and electronic properties of semiconductors before engaging in the research program that will lead to the publications that will compose the core of his PhD thesis.
